Tile floors in a hot climate

Tile stays cool underfoot through a Bakersfield summer and does not trap dust the way carpet does, which is why so many Valley homes have it. Large-format tile needs a flat slab to avoid lippage, so floor prep gets as much attention as the tile itself.

Gabriel is based at 5008 Gaylene Ave in southeast Bakersfield and takes ceramic tile jobs across Bakersfield and Kern County.

How the job runs

  1. 01

You call or send the form

Tell Gabriel what you want done. You get the owner on the phone, not a call centre or a salesperson.

  2. 02

    Gabriel comes and measures

He looks at the job in person, measures, and checks what is likely behind the walls before anything gets priced.

  3. 03

    A written estimate and contract

Scope and price in writing before any work starts, as California law requires for home-improvement jobs over $500.

  4. 04

    The work, then a walk-through

The job gets built and cleaned up, and you walk through it together before it is called finished.

Ceramic Tile questions

Is travertine a good choice for a shower?

Travertine looks beautiful in a shower, as the project photos show, but it is a natural stone and should be sealed and resealed over time. Porcelain needs less upkeep.

Can you add a niche or bench to my shower?

Yes. Niches and benches are planned during framing so they are built in and waterproofed properly, not added as an afterthought.

Can tile go over my old tile?

Sometimes, but it is rarely the best option. Removing the old tile lets the substrate be checked and keeps the floor height right at doorways.
